There
are literally hundreds of companies selling products, all which claim
to kill head lice.
Why are there so many different products? Two truths exist. The first is
that most parents who find out their child has lice are desperate to
fix the problem A.S.A.P. and are willing to buy almost anything that
claims to solve the problem. The second is that lice are hard to get
rid of, and many parents spend too much time going through too many
different treatments, before they find something that really works. These two facts alone are fueling the growth of an entire lice removal industry.
Though it’s not reasonable to go over all of the hundreds of treatments
available we will provide an overview of the most common treatments
that are currently available. The most common ways to kill head lice
are poisoning the lice, suffocating the lice, or manually removing
the lice.
Before
choosing a treatment, consider this One
of the most important things to consider when choosing a treatment is
will this treatment kill the nits (lice eggs). Many treatments are
effective against the lice, but very few are effective at killing the
nits. This is because each nit is surrounded with an
almost-impenetrable protein glue shell that protects the egg. The
nits are what make head lice so hard to eradicate, and if the
treatment won’t kill the nits, then the infestation will continue.
